Description
French Second Empire Cuirassier Helmet. Silver metal with black fur turban, the edges banded in gilt metal. The gilded comb is decorated on both sides with volutes and laurel leaves and the front bears the head of Medusa, above her a flaming grenade with red horsehair brush. A black horsehair tail hangs from the rear of the comb. The leather-backed gilded chinchans are attached to two large rosette bosses. A gilded socket on the side on the left side supports a red horse hair brush. The seven fingered black leather liner is in very good condition with brass grommets for the suspension adjustment string. The reverse of the helmet is stamped near the brass comb “275 42”. The helmet remains in nice condition with some scattered loss to the fur turban and tarnishing to the silver metal skull, else in excellent condition. Email for more photos.
