Description
French painted document box from Alsace, north east France. There is a simalir
style at the Strasbourg Museum, Alsace, France.
Cleated lid hinges on tenoned ends of backboard coming on to butted and nailed well.
Based molded bottom panel nailed to frame. Retains a intricate steel spring lock
with original key and escutcheon. The exterior walls are skillfully painted with
red and white flowers, green leaves and trailed white dots on a dark grey background.
Late 18 early 19th century.
